• Sixth grade music explores this history of Broadway musicals by singing songs, learning about the actors/actresses, acting out scenes and performing for the class. As a final project, students will write their own mini-musical based on a fairytale. Students will compose four types of songs for their musical and perform these for the class. Each student will also participate in a weekly drum circle.
  • Seventh grade music is designed as a composition class for students. They will spend nine weeks learning the 12-bar blues, creating music and sound effects for a cartoon, writing a short melody using pitched-plastic tubes, and creating the music for movie trailors using a computer software program called GarageBand.

  • The 8th grade mixed chorus elective is for students who are interested in singing. Each day will start with sight-singing and music theory. Students will then be introduced to various styles of music including: Broadway show tunes, blues, gospel, popular, jazz, and ballads. This is a performance class and students will be expected to perform at Holiday/Spring concerts as well as community events.
  • The 8th grade percussion elective is a performance class for students who are interested in playing percussion instruments. Each day will begin with a new rhythm chart that will progressively become more challenging. Students will learn to play percussion ensembles and will also learn the art of playing Steel Pans. The class will be expected to perform in Holiday/Spring concerts and various community events.
  • This is a semester long course. Students are encouraged to explore art topics and techniques that interest them. They review the simple methods of creating space and embark on a study of perspective. The tech project for this year involves creating three self-portraits on the computer. Students continue to explore Art History and theory through the Art Mystery program.
  • Seventh grade art is a quarter devoted to the process of printing. Students learn how to create the following press prints: fingerprints, household objects, clay molds, nature prints, and string pulls. The also develop the ability to design, fabricate, and print the following plate prints: stencils, foam and rubber plates. The tech project for the quarter is creating a two-fold card. Art History and theory are pursued through the Art Mystery Program.
  • Sixth grade art is a quarter dedicated to learning the principles, terminology, and methodology of creating art. Students design a collage to explore the concepts of modern and traditional space. Through a series of projects students improve their handling of media and ability to draw. Several days are set aside to learn to "draw" on the computer. Students also participate in an Art Mystery Program that explores Art History and theory.
